Scala Biodesign was founded in Tel Aviv in 2024 by researchers who spent years watching promising variant designs fail at synthesis because no one had a fast, reliable way to pre-screen stability before ordering oligos.
We believe computational pre-screening should be as routine as BLAST. The limiting factor is not data or compute: it is accessibility. Scala exists to make stability prediction a daily tool for bench scientists, not a specialist skill.

Ravit Netzer
CEO and Co-Founder
Ravit spent years inside industrial enzyme programs where the bottleneck was always the same: too many candidate variants, too few synthesis slots, and no reliable computational filter to close that gap. She co-founded Scala in 2024 to build the tool her teams always needed.
Oren Katz
Chief Science Officer and Co-Founder
Oren has spent his career building sequence-to-function models for proteins. His work on probabilistic fitness representations and ensemble calibration forms the core of Scala's hybrid stability model. He co-founded Scala after years of applying ML to protein engineering problems where existing tools were not good enough.
Tamar Levy
Head of Computational Biology
Tamar's work focuses on epistatic coupling in protein fitness landscapes. She developed methods for multi-site variant scoring that directly shaped Scala's combinatorial scanning module, and continues to lead the work on expanding protein family coverage and calibrating confidence estimates for out-of-distribution queries.
